Creative Landscape Painting at Lulworth Cove, Dorset

This area of outstanding natural beauty offers endless inspiration for the artist. From wide vistas over dramatic white cliffs to small groups of boats and other fishing paraphernalia, the fascinating rock formations and vivid colours of stones and seaweeds, the ever changing mood, atmosphere and light in sea and sky, there is something for everyone – here is the inspiration you’ve been waiting for!
Helen Halliday is an experienced tutor and her painting courses are extremely popular – her enthusiasm for her subject is infectious, and her patient and encouraging way of teaching gives every student the chance to progress without feeling inhibited, whatever their standard. She shares her experience and knowledge in a relaxed and informal manner, and many students find her demonstrations an inspiration.

The aim of the course is to allow you to develop at your own pace and in your own way, in a relaxed, friendly and stimulating environment. Every effort will be made to put you at ease and provide encouragement
During the week basic skills and ways of approaching the subject will be demonstrated – the aim is to develop individual creativity by experimenting with colour, composition and materials. Different techniques with watercolour and mixed media will be investigated, looking at contemporary artists to see some other interpretations. This is your chance to discover something new, with a group of like-minded people – whether you are an experienced artist or just starting out, this painting holiday will provide you with the creative stimulus you are looking for.

The Hotel

The Cromwell House Hotel provides a relaxing and welcoming base for the holiday. It is only a few minutes’ walk from the sea and has wonderful views from the gardens and many of the rooms. The cost of £530 includes 5 nights full board and single ensuite rooms. The spacious dining room with views over the village and the sea will be our studio if the weather is wet, though the course will be based outside as much as possible. A materials list will be sent out when booking.

NB the course involves some steep walks to reach the best viewpoints!

Since Lulworth I’ve been painting as much as possible, but quiet, leafy Chiswick is not nearly so exciting as Lulworth in a squall. Thank you for such an exciting and stimulating course, and it was great fun. Don’t be surprised if I turn up again on one of your courses! Dominic

July 2005:
’I like the way you get the shapes right yet make it your own’. ‘You’re the most relaxed tutor I’ve come across’. ‘I feel so inspired!’
